Difference between B.E and B.Tech - The Career Counsellor
Students granted a Bachelor
of Technology (BTech), a certified undergraduate engineering degree,
after successfully completing four years of education in the field. Engineering
is one of the most popular degrees available in India, and there are many educational
institutions that provide it.
JEE Main and JEE Advanced are
the most popular entrance exams for BTech admissions. Students may take a
variety of entrance exams at the state and private levels in addition to the
national exams administered for course entry. For enrollment into a BTech degree,
a grade of 12 in mathematics, physics, and chemistry is the absolute
requirement. Each entrance test and institute has additional requirements,
though.
Course Highlights for BTech
Students interested in applying for BTech admission can review key information about the programme in the table below:
B.Tech Specialization
A BTech degree is available in
several specialisations in India. There are several well-known specialities,
including:
- Civil Engineering
- Computer Science Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Marine Engineering
- Chemical Engineering
- Petroleum Engineering
- Aerospace Engineering
- Ceramic Engineering
- Electronics & Communication Engineering
- Metallurgical Engineering
- Electronics & Electrical Engineering
Even while all of these specialisations
provide excellent opportunities for students to enter a range of industries,
computer science engineering is perhaps one of the most sought-after programmes
at the moment. High entrance exam cutoff scores are required for admission to
this programme at prestigious engineering schools like the Indian Institutes of
Technology (IITs), Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIITs), and
National Institutes of Technology (NITs), as well as some of the best central
universities.
How do BE and BTech degrees
differ from one another?
Here the difference
between BE and BTech, similar orientation is also provided to students
enrolled in the Bachelor of Engineering (BE) degree programme as it is in the
B.Tech degree programme. In fact, there is so much similarity in the
requirements for admission to institutions, the courses offered by recruiting
agencies, and even the job profiles offered during placements that students
frequently question whether they are the same. Regarding the curriculum and
programme orientation, there are two degree programmes that are fundamentally
different from one another.
The points of distinction
between these two programmes are summarised in the table below.
Students who get a BE or a B.Tech degree have the option of pursuing an engineering job. The courses last for 4 years and are broken up into 8 semesters.
Typically, there are two types
of engineering programmes:
Following a diploma in
engineering, a 3-year BE/B.Tech.
After Class 12: 4-year
BE/B.Tech.
The four-year programme gives
students additional rigour and covers more material in terms of the breadth of
the curriculum.
Qualifications for BE/BTech
Any BTech programme requires
the following requirements to be satisfied in order to be admitted:
Candidates must have passed
the Class 12 test from an approved board with Physics, Chemistry, and
Mathematics as their core subjects.
Furthermore, students had to
have received a minimum of 60% across all of the aforementioned disciplines.
The performance of the
applicant on the entrance exam is taken into consideration when most admission
choices are made.
Please be aware that the
eligibility requirements for a BTech degree will vary depending on the
institution.
Top Entrance Exams For BTech
In India, the All India
Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and the National Board of Accreditation
have regulatory authority over all technical programmes, including BTech (NBA).
Engineering entrance exams at the national, state, and institution levels are
required for admission to B.Tech programmes. The top five engineering entrance
examinations that many candidates take each year are as follows:
JEE Main- JEE
Main is the entrance exam for BTech admissions to NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs. It is
administered by the National Testing Agency. Paper 1 (BE/BTech) and Paper 2
(BArch/BPlan) are the two papers that make up JEE Main.
JEE Advanced - For
BTech admissions to IITs, there is a national entrance exam called JEE
Advanced. Candidates must pass the JEE Main test in order to sit for the JEE
Advanced exam.
VITEEE - The
Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) and its many campuses offer admission
into the BTech programmes through VITEEE, one of the most well-known private
institute entrance exams.
MHT CET- Students may apply for admission to BTech
programmes in the state of Maharashtra's BTech institutes through MHT CET.
Students may be admitted to
Telangana state institutions through TS EAMCET based on their performance in
the entrance exam.
Process for BTech Admission in
India 2023
For all BTech applicants, the BTech admission
process is the same regardless of the institute. The many steps for admission
to a BTech are listed below:
First and foremost, BTech
candidates must take and pass one of the entrance tests in order to be
considered for admission to an institution.
National engineering admission
exams like JEE Main are accepted by NITs, IIITs, GFTIs, and a large number of
other private colleges. JEE Advanced is the name of the entrance examination
for IIT admission.
In addition to the
aforementioned two tests, BTech Admissions are also performed through
university/college level exams. Here are some top BTech
colleges entrance exams in India like BITSAT, VITEEE, SRMJEEE, UPESEAT,
etc. In particular, there are state-level tests like WBJEE, KEAM, AP EAMCET, TS
EAMCET, MHT CET, etc.
Every year, the engineering
entrance tests are all administered throughout the months of April, May, and
June.
The relevant authorities have
held counselling sessions and seat allocation procedures following the
announcement of each exam's results. Students must select their college and
courses during counselling depending on their rankings.
After receiving their seat
assignments, each student must go to the specified engineering university to
complete the entrance requirements.
BE/BTech Skill Requirements
Candidates who earn a BTech degree can pursue careers as software developers, information technology consultants, computer forensic analysts, information technology business analysts, and computer network architects and many more.
